Icefire Glassworks is a unique glassblowing studio and art gallery that’s one of the most popular attractions in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Here, visitors can admire original vases, bowls, and sculptural forms, all created out of glass by local artists. The studio is just a few minutes away when you stay with Starfish Vacation Rentals and is a must-see on your next trip to the Oregon Coast! Here are just a few of the things you’ll find at Icefire Glassworks.

What You’ll See at Icefire Glassworks

Featured Artists

James Kingwell and Suzanne Kindland have both been blowing glass at Icefire Glassworks for decades. A potter and self-taught glass artist, Kingwell’s works showcase spectacular color and form. His “Northern Lights” pieces are calm and serene, and his “Bad Hair Day” series has an undeniable electric energy. Kindland also displays many beautiful pieces in the gallery, including her “Autumn Leaves” series which depicts forests, grasslands, and deserts. Gallery friends Michelle Kaptur and Mark Gordon are also featured.

In addition to the dramatically colored glass pieces that line the walls, the gallery’s building is a sight to behold. The door hinges are made of material salvaged from a shipwreck, and the roof is made of recycled metal. Hand-hewn cedar posts and steel brackets complete the rustic 1970s feel.

Cannon Beach Glass Blowing Classes

James Kingwell and Suzanne Kindland also offer live glassblowing demonstrations for visitors. The artists explain the process and assist each other as they add a blob of molten glass to the furnace, which blasts flames at over 2000 degrees. The artists then adds bits of color and more glass to increase the size. Guests can admire the half hour demonstration from an observation area in the gallery. Icefire Glassworks is open Thursday through Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
