Oregon Coast in winter.

Do you enjoy making the most of your vacation by immersing yourself in a destination? A visit to the Oregon Coast in the off-season allows you to experience an array of unique activities that you typically wouldn’t get to try when traveling during peak tourist times.

How to Enjoy the Oregon Coast During the Off-Season

The Oregon Coast off-season begins in winter and runs through the end of spring. During these two seasons, visitors will find lighter crowds and cooler temperatures. But trust us; these “Secret Seasons” are well worth visit.

Winter

Winter on the Oregon Coast is a fantastic time to visit the Oregon Coast. This magical season allows guests to access the local small coastal town charm that’s evident without throngs of visitors flocking to the area. The temperatures during this “Magic Season” range from the high 30s to the upper 40s, but most of the Oregon Coast off-season highlights don’t revolve around outdoor activities. One of the most unique things to do in December, January, and February is storm watching—and you don’t even have to leave your rental! You can curl up in your cozy Starfish Vacation Rental property with a warm cup of cocoa and gaze at the wondrous sight of the Pacific Ocean, putting on a mesmerizing show. It’s just one of the many fascinating draws of visiting in the winter.

Whale migration is another incredible sight during the off-season on the Oregon Coast. Keep your eyes peeled during the week between Christmas and New Year’s, when whales venture closer to shore. This is peak whale-watching time. The best viewing locations are beaches, Ecola State Park, and our oceanfront and ocean view homes!

The holidays don’t bring large crowds, making Thanksgiving and Christmas fun and relaxing times to visit. You can cook the perfect feast for your family in your spacious and well-appointed Starfish Vacation Rentals’ kitchen. Are you bring the entire family along with you? We have a collection of large rentals, including Santo Cristo, Stone’s Throw, The Purcell House, and Rancho Del Mar that are perfect for groups with 11 or more guests. You’ll find an array of holiday magic in the small towns along the coast. Among our favorites are Haystack Holidays and Christmas Lights in the business district. The neighboring towns of Manzanita and Seaside also provide plenty of holiday cheer for families!

Spring

If you want to experience the natural beauty of the Oregon Coast without large crowds of visitors, this is one of the best times to visit. While temperatures range from the low 40s to the high 50s and relatively rainy, the weather typically clears up in the afternoon just in time for a hike or walk on the beach. Just be sure to check the forecast every day! If you bring jackets and some warm gear with you, exploring nearby hiking trails and parks is still a fun activity.

Winter isn’t the only time to enjoy whale-watching on the Oregon Coast. You can view whale migrations year-round, but the season officially kicks off during the last week of March. Check out the Whale Watch Spoken Here program website for more info about the whales and best places to spot them along the coast!

In addition to whale-watching, springtime on coast features annual events like Savor Cannon Beach and Get Lit at the Beach. These Oregon Coast off-season festivities are unique ways to experience our local beach town atmospheres.
