How to Spend a Day with Oregon Coast Railriders

It’s no secret that the Oregon Coast is one of the most scenic destinations in the United States. And there are plenty of ways to explore it – on foot, by car, or even from above. But if you want to see our region from a different perspective, we recommend a tour with Oregon Coast Railriders. You’ll ride the rails of the Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad on a unique, pedal-powered railroad bicycle. Admire tidal flora and fauna as you pass over estuaries, meadows, and streams, or watch for birds and farm animals. It’s perfect for families, friends, and groups of all ages! About Oregon Coast Railriders

History

Established in 2016, Oregon Coast Railriders uses seven miles of the historic Port of Tillamook Bay Railroad. This 101-mile shortline railroad was built by the Pacific Railway and Navigation Company and was used to transport lumber and agricultural products in the 1990s. Today, guests can tour the railway with Oregon Coast Railriders or the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad.

Tour Information

A guided railroad tour is one of the best ways to relax and experience the beauty of the Oregon Coast. Each custom designed railrider has four adjustable seats and pedals that propel the unit at your speed. And there’s no need to worry about whether you’re doing it right; guides will accompany your group and help you navigate road crossings, turn you around, and assist with any other issues that may arise.

Each Oregon Coast Railriders tour takes about two hours, depending on your group size. You’ll pedal six miles to Tillamook, then turn around and pedal back to Bay City. Tours are available from May to October with departures at 9 a.m., 12, and 3 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Reservations are strongly recommended.

Things to Remember

  • Tours run rain or shine. Dress for the weather and come prepared with sun protection or a light rain jacket.
  • Much like cycling, rail riding is a physical sport. We recommend packing some water for the trip.
  • Be sure to check your email for confirmation of reservations and payment.
  • Don’t forget to bring a camera!
